Learning curves

Posted on

For a technophobe who loves that reassuring feel and smell of a real paper book in my hand, I feel like a surfer riding the waves as I tackle the learning curve that is technology. Since becoming a freelancer I have leapt over some hurdles and tripped over others, determined to get back on my feet and try again. Social media and e-reading were rather pleasant challenges, with a few added benefits that I hadn’t realised existed. CAT tools are an ongoing project which has so far involved a great deal of head-scratching and bafflement, but I am still persevering on in the hope of an eventual breakthrough.

My most recent personal triumph, though, was creating a website. I have procrastinated for a long time but finally resolved to take the bull by its metaphorical horns and make it happen. I still have much more to learn, such as formatting, links, etc., but at least I now have something to show for my efforts, and a foundation upon which to build.

In the coming weeks and months I hope to explore the world of translation, including topical issues, noteworthy literature, general musings on the subject of translation, and perhaps even some extracts of my own work. Meanwhile interesting comments and constructive criticism are most welcome.
